The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all banking operations across the country will be suspended on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, in observance of Independence Day.
This announcement was made public through a press release issued by the SBP on Thursday.
According to the announcement, all branches of the State bank, its regional offices, public sector and private banks, as well as other financial institutions, will remain closed on August 14. Regular banking activities are scheduled to resume next day on Thursday, August 15, 2024.
This public holiday has been declared in accordance with the Government of Pakistan’s decision to commemorate Independence Day nationwide.
The observance of this day marks the historic moment when Pakistan gained independence from British colonial rule on August 14, 1947.
Independence Day is celebrated across Pakistan with various official and public events, including flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, and cultural programs. Public offices, educational institutions, and private organizations typically observe the holiday, allowing citizens to participate in the national celebrations.
The SBP’s announcement underscores the importance of this day in the national calendar, ensuring that all financial institutions join in the commemoration of Pakistan’s independence.
