The Federal Education Ministry has decided not to extend summer vacation for schools and hold board exams as per schedule across the country despite the surging coronavirus positivity rate.
The decision was made during the meeting chaired by the Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood, which was attended by all education ministers, including the minister from Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
The Punjab Government had recommended the extension of summer vacation for schools till 15 August but the decision was rejected during the meeting. Furthermore, the schools have been instructed to take precautionary measures and ensure SOPs for reopening on 2 August 2021.
Moreover, the representatives from the provincial education departments were directed to make decisions regarding the resumption of schools according to the coronavirus positivity ratio in their respective provinces.
It bears mentioning that the Sindh Government is mulling over implementing a complete lockdown in Karachi until 14 August due to the spread of the Delta Variant. However, the board exams will continue as planned as per the notification issued by the Provincial Government.
