QUETTA: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has reported that torrential rains in Balochistan have resulted in the deaths of 12 people.
According to ARY News, these fatalities include five children and have occurred due to various incidents such as lightning strikes, roof collapses, and wall collapses.
In addition to the tragic loss of life, the rains have injured 32 people, including three women and ten children. The heavy downpours have also caused significant property damage, with 263 houses affected. Moreover, 312 acres of crops and 19 kilometers of roads have been damaged.
The PDMA report also highlighted the loss of 106 animals due to lightning strikes and other rain-related incidents. Efforts are underway by the PDMA and district administrations to provide relief to the affected areas.
Monsoon Forecast
The meteorological office has forecast torrential monsoon rains across the country from August 1st to 6th. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa districts, rainfall is expected to begin on the evening of August 1st and continue until August 6th, with occasional gaps.
Islamabad and Punjab are likely to receive rainfall until August 6th, with scattered heavy and isolated very heavy falls expected. South Punjab districts are also expected to experience rain with heavy falls from August 2nd to 6th, with occasional gaps.
In Balochistan, Karachi, and other districts of Sindh, rainfall is anticipated from the evening or night of August 2nd to 6th, with occasional gaps. Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to see rainfall from the evening or night of August 3rd to 6th.
Flash Flood Warnings
The torrential rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs and streams in Murree, Galliyat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Punjab, Islamabad, and northeast Punjab, as well as in the hill torrents of D.G. Khan and Kashmir. Balochistan’s Kalat and other districts are also at risk of flash flooding from August 3rd to 5th. Low-lying areas of Sindh may experience flash flooding on August 4th and 5th.
Local authorities and residents are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions during this period of heavy rainfall.
