The UAE is undergoing a comprehensive assessment of its laws to assess their effects on different niches of society paying particular attention to equality of treatment to investors, citizens, immigrants, and special categories. Vice-President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlights global nature of the country and its laws, stressing a need for transparency and commitment towards enforcement of the rule of law. The UAE Cabinet, headed by Sheikh Mohammed, launched a platform which documents the laws, federal decrees and regulations since 1971 that are made accessible in Arabic and English.
The platform, accessible for free, features over 1000 laws, encouraging specialists to provide opinions and suggestions. The objective is to bolster government transparency and establish a top-tier legal and legislative environment globally. The platform incorporates an advanced search engine, allowing the public to access legislation smoothly, track amendments, and stay updated on enacted laws.
Additionally, the UAE Cabinet approved the ‘Science, Technology and Innovation Policy,’ outlining national directives for Research and Development (R&D). The policy addresses key areas such as energy transition, health, food and water security, digital technology, cybersecurity, and advanced materials. The national focus includes solar energy, hydrogen production, healthcare, environmental concerns, sustainable food production, desalination, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, cybersecurity, and 3D printing.
