In a tragic incident, a university student, identified as Laraib, was fatally shot in Karachi’s Korangi area for resisting a robbery on Monday night. Laraib was targeted by two unknown robbers in the Allah Wala Town neighborhood while he was on his way home from the gym. When he tried to resist, he was shot dead by the assailants.
Despite resistance, Laraib was shot near his eye, succumbing to his injuries. His family lamented the failure of law enforcement to curb such incidents. Laraib’s father revealed his son’s engagement and upcoming marriage plans for 2025. Laraib’s brother mentioned his ongoing project, a book on Basic Accounting, stored on his phone, which he fiercely protected during the robbery.
Police investigations discovered a 30-bore pistol’s shell at the crime scene and they are actively working on the case to bring the culprits to justice, with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) ensuring cooperation with the victim’s family and gathering surveillance footage for leads.
This tragic incident resonates with a similar event in December 2022, when Bilal Nasir, a 21-year-old engineering student at NED University, was fatally shot by robbers attempting to snatch his phone. The police issued a cautionary plea, urging citizens not to resist robbery attempts, emphasizing the dangers posed by such confrontations.
Karachi has been plagued with such incidents since the last few months, with several people losing their lives during armed robberies as street crime has witnessed a significant rise in the port city. On February 29, a Foodpanda rider was shot dead in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area during one of his deliveries.
