ISLAMABAD: PTI leader Usman Dar has resigned from his post as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Youth Affairs in order to contest in the NA-75 by-elections in Sialkot.
The cabinet division subsequently de-notified after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) sent a notice to Usman Dar for taking part in the Sialkot by-elections.
According to the election rules, the PTI leader could not contest in the election from city NA-75 constituency while he was holding a government post.
Usman Dar will reportedly resume is official duty as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Youth Affairs after the election.
Dar said that he stepped down from the position of SAPM after consulting with the prime minister after he started receiving notifications from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
“I think the party needs me in the election campaign more than my position at the moment.” he said in on Twitter regarding the matter.

The by-elections on NA-75 and a provincial assembly seat (PP-51 -Gujranwala) are scheduled to be held on February 19.
