The Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a significant monsoon spell from August 14 to 18, with the heaviest rainfall expected on Independence Day.
A robust monsoon is anticipated to advance into Upper Parts from August 14th, driven by favorable currents from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. The Monsoon Trough is expected to remain near its normal position for the majority of the current week.
A fresh and Strong Western Disturbance is forecast to impact Northwest Pakistan from August 14th, persisting for 3-4 days before shifting northeastward from Northern Pakistan.
Widespread interactions between mid-to-upper level westerlies and easterlies are expected in the upper regions of the country, leading to:
- Isolated localized thunderstorms in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Northeastern Balochistan on August 13th.
- Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy precipitation, with isolated very heavy falls, in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Upper /Central Punjab, and Kashmir from August 14th to 17th.
- Isolated to scattered moderate to heavy falls in South Punjab, central /southern Kpk, Northern and Northeastern Balochistan, and parts of Upper Sindh from August 15th to 18th.
- A return of Heavy rainfall in Sindh is expected after August 17th.
