Weather experts have forecasted that southern parts of Sindh, including Karachi, are set to experience “more than usual” monsoon rains this year, with the season likely to start in the first week of July. This prediction comes as a medium-level pressure system is expected to form over the Arabian Sea on June 30, which will bring the initial downpour to Karachi and other regions.
Analysts have indicated that the monsoon season in Karachi is anticipated to begin early in July due to this weather system over the Arabian Sea. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has previously mentioned that the monsoon season will commence from June 27 to July 4 across Pakistan. For southern Sindh, including Karachi, they are forecasting higher-than-average rainfall this year.
An analyst explained, “A medium-level pressure is expected to be created over the Arabian Sea on June 30, which would result in the first spell of downpour to the port city in the first week of July.”
The prediction for more rainfall than usual in southern Sindh is categorized as a “long-term forecast,” meaning it may be subject to changes as weather patterns evolve.
In its daily forecast, the PMD noted that mostly very hot and dry weather is expected during the daytime in many plains of the country. However, they also forecast gusty winds, windstorms, and isolated rain-thunderstorms in northeast Punjab, Islamabad, the Potohar region, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during the evening and night hours.
The PMD also indicated that some areas of Karachi could experience drizzle late Wednesday night. Despite this, the weather in the city is expected to remain hot and humid over the next 24 hours.
As the monsoon season approaches, residents of Karachi and other parts of southern Sindh are advised to prepare for potential heavy rainfall and ensure they have adequate measures in place to handle the upcoming weather conditions.
