In the latest weather update, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted next spell of monsoon rains across the country. According to the details, the PMD has forecasted the next monsoon system to enter Sindh on July 22 and predicted widespread rains and thunderstorms in parts of the province.
The weather update states that strong monsoon currents are likely to penetrate into Sindh from 22 July (Friday) night / 23 July (Saturday) morning and will prevail till 26 July (Tuesday).
Under the influence of the weather system, it is expected that there will be widespread rain-wind / thunderstorm with scattered heavy/very heavy falls in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Tando M Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Shikarpur, Kambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki and Kashmore districts during July 23 to 26.
Meanwhile, the weather update stated that rain in imminent in Karachi from July 24 to 26 and may trigger urban flooding in the port city. According to the notification, the heavy rainfall may generate urban flooding in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Tando M Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Dadu, Jamshoro, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, and Sukkur during the forecast period.
There may be strong winds, which may damage vulnerable and loose structures, while persistent heavy spell over Khuzdar, Lasbela, Hub, and along Kirthar Range may create pressure on Hub Dam and flash flooding in Dadu and Jamshoro districts and downstream.
Earlier, the PMD had predicted strong monsoon currents to penetrate in the upper and central parts of the country from July 20 (Wednesday) and expected to spread to the other parts of the country from July 21 (Thursday).
The PMD stated that more rain -wind/thundershower (with scattered heavy falls) are expected in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Hafizabad, M. B Din, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Kohat from July 20 to 26 with occasional gaps.
More rain-wind/thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) is expected in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, D.I. Khan, Sahiwal, Okara, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Vehari, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahimyar Khan and Khanpur from July 21 to 26 with occasional gaps.
Furthermore, the weather update states that more rain-wind/thundershower (with few heavy falls) are expected in Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Loralai, Bolan, Kohlu, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Naseer Abad, Jaffar Abad and Sibbi from 22nd to 26th July while in all districts of Sindh from July 22 to 26.
In Punjab, the heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Faisalabad, Lahore and Gujranwala from 20th to 23rd July. In Sindh, the same is expected in Karachi Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro, Mirpurkhas, Dadu, Umer Kot, Jacobabad, Larkana and Sukkur from 24th to 26th July.
Meanwhile, it is expected that weather system may generate flash flooding in local Nullahs of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Dir and Kashmir from 20th to 23rd July. While, in Loralai, Barkhan, Kohlu, Mosa Khel, Sherani, Sibbi, Bolan and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan from 22nd to 25th July.
Rainfall may trigger landslides in Kashmir, Galiyat, Murree, Chillas, Diamir, Gilgit, Hunza, Astore and Skardu during the forecast period and travelers are advised by the PMD to remain more cautious during the forecast period, while farmers are advised to arrange watering of the fields accordingly.
