The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a new weather update and warned of heatwave like conditions across the country due to presence of high pressure in the upper atmosphere.
In a press release, the PMD stated, “Met Office informed that due to presence of high pressure in the upper atmosphere, the day temperatures are likely to increase gradually in most parts of the country from 20th to 24th June.”
It added that day temperatures are likely to remain 4-6°C above normal in upper and central Punjab, Islamabad, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the day temperatures will remain 2-4°C above normal in Sindh, South Punjab, and parts of Balochistan. However, the PMD says that occasional dust/thunderstorm with rain at isolated places (in pockets) is expected in the plains of the country and hilly areas during the period.
Possible Impacts:
- Due to rise in temperature power and water demand will increase in the coming days.
- Farmers are advised to manage the watering of crop accordingly.
- General public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.
