The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast intermittent rains and gusty winds for Lahore and various parts of Punjab over the weekend. These weather conditions are expected on Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday.
Currently, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan, with a shallow westerly wave persisting over the upper regions of the country. As a result, areas including Murree, Galyat, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Narowal, Sialkot, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Mandi Bahauddin, and Bahawalnagar are likely to experience gusty winds accompanied by isolated rain-thunderstorms during this period.
Despite the forecasted rains, extremely hot weather with gusty winds is predicted for the southern districts of Punjab, while hot conditions will continue elsewhere in the province. In Lahore, temperatures are expected to remain high, with maximum temperatures ranging between 44-46°C on Saturday and 43-45°C on Sunday.
In the past 24 hours, heatwaves have affected Lahore and the plains of Punjab. Noorpur Thal, Bahawalnagar, and Bhakkar were the hottest locations, recording maximum temperatures of 47°C. Other hot spots included Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanpur, Mandi Bahauddin, Kasur, and Okara, with temperatures peaking at 46°C. Lahore recorded a maximum temperature of 45°C, with relative humidity in the evening at 16 percent.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during the ongoing heatwave and the expected weather changes over the weekend.
