The Government of Pakistan has announced a public holiday on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer, a historic day when Pakistan conducted successful nuclear tests at the hills of Chaghai in 1998.
A notification released by the Cabinet Division stated, “The Prime Minister has been pleased to declare 28th May 2024 (Youm-e-Takbeer) as a public holiday throughout the country.”
Here is a copy of the notification:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Youm-e-Takbeer reminds Pakistanis of their unity to make the country’s defense strong.
On this day, the nation committed to protecting Pakistan’s integrity, refusing to compromise its defense under any pressure.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Youm-e-Takbeer encourages everyone to unite under the green crescent flag to strengthen the country’s defense.
He paid tribute to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistan Army for making the defense invincible, and to former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and scientists for starting and maintaining the nuclear program.
PM Shehbaz pledged that the nation will work hard to ensure Pakistan’s economic security, just as they secured its defense on May 28, 1998.
