A sessions court in Karachi has extended the interim bail of YouTuber Yasir Shami until June 6 in the leaked video case of the late anchorperson and politician Dr. Aamir Liaquat.
The hearing was adjourned due after Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prosecutor failed to show up at court. Yasir Shami’s lawyer requested a later date for the hearing since the YouTuber comes from Lahore. Furthermore, the lawyer also asked for the bail to be confirmed.
After the hearing, Yasir Shami spoke to the media and stated, “I blurred the video and then uploaded it,” and mentioned that the issue was related to Aamir Liaquat’s family property dispute and he was dragged into the case unfairly.
Earlier, Dr. Aamir Liaquat’s former wife, Bushra Iqbal also expressed frustration over the FIA’s lack of seriousness regarding the case. She urged the FIA to handle the high-profile case with a higher priority. Moreover, she added that interim bail would likely be canceled due to insufficient evidence.
Aamir Liaquat’s third wife, Dania Shah, also attended the court session. The hearing was adjourned until June 6 as not all parties had received copies of the case documents.
It is pertinent to mention that the controversial video in question showed Aamir Liaquat while he was undressed and allegedly under the influence of an illegal substance. The video went viral on social media shortly after the news of divorce with Dania Shah.
Aamir Liaquat, who was a former MNA, passed away on June 9, 2022, in Karachi under mysterious circumstances. He was buried at the Abdullah Shah Ghazi shrine.
Last year, Dania Shah was indicted in the case but later secured bail. Yasir Shami, now seeking bail, surrendered to the court and was initially granted bail with a surety bond of Rs. 500,000.
Shami reiterated his commitment to journalistic values, stating, “I have full trust in the courts.” The court has extended his interim bail and adjourned the hearing to June 6 due to the absence of the FIA prosecutor.
