Karachi was struck by tragedy on Tuesday night as a young YouTuber, amidst the fervor of the T20 World Cup, was fatally shot by a security guard in the city’s Sakhi Hasan area.
The incident unfolded at the Serena mobile market, a bustling hub, where Saad Ahmed was engrossed in filming a video on the cricket match, engaging with local vendors, as per eyewitness accounts.
Eyewitnesses recounted that an encounter with the security guard, identified as Gul Hassan, took a tragic turn when Ahmed attempted to discuss his video with him, prompting the guard to open fire.
Circulating on social media, closed-circuit camera footage captured the chilling moment when the security guard approached the Saad Ahmed and fired his weapon. The bullet struck Ahmed in the shoulder, causing him to collapse as onlookers rushed to his aid.
Prompt response from law enforcement saw police swiftly arriving at the scene, coordinating with rescue teams to transport Ahmed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Tragically, despite efforts, Ahmed was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The apprehended guard, Gul Hassan, provided a statement to police, alleging that Ahmed’s actions of pointing at him during the video aggravated him, leading to the fatal shooting.
Authorities disclosed that the guard, hailing from Waziristan, faced language barriers, hindering immediate communication. Moreover, investigations revealed lapses in his training, raising concerns regarding adherence to regulations.
In response to the incident, an FIR was lodged at Taimuria Police Station on behalf of the victim’s father, Mukhtiar Ahmed. The complaint names the security guard, the security company, and the mobile market administration, alleging negligence despite prior permission granted for filming.
