The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (RHC) has confirmed the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon and announced that Pakistan will celebrate Eid ul Adha on June 17.
The committee, headed by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, collaborated with members from central and zonal committees, along with representatives from SUPARCO, the Met Office, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Sub-committees in Lahore, Peshawar, and other cities collected testimonies locally. Earlier reports from the Peshawar and Quetta zonal committees confirmed the crescent sighting.
Eid ul Adha, which falls on the tenth day of Zil Hajj and coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage will be celebrated on June 17 in Pakistan, after the Zil Hajj moon was sighted by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
The start of the lunar month of Dhul Hijjah, which is the last month in the Islamic calendar, was already announced by Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries on June 6.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz predicted “strong chances” of sighting the crescent tonight after the Zil Hajj new moon appeared on Thursday.
As Eid ul Adha comes closer, numerous cattle markets are operational across the county, facilitating the purchase of cows, goats, sheep, or camels for sacrifice.
