KARACHI: NAB has ordered freezing 10,468 commercial plots of Bahria Town Karachi. Following an investigation that found substantial evidence of corruption, the Director-General (DG) of NAB Karachi, Javed Akbar Riaz, then dispatched these instructions.
NAB claimed in the reference that an investigation proved that Bahria Town (Pvt) Ltd, its owner Malik Riaz, his son Ahmad Ali Riaz, Zain Malik, Shahid Qureshi, Faisal Qureshi, Mohammad Awais, Wasim Rifat and Waqas Rifat were indulging in widespread corruption.
All of them were found involved in illegal activities pertaining to land acquisition and allotment, the inquiry found.
Similarly, the NAB probe had revealed that Malik Riaz and his aides had illegally purchased more than 16,000 acres of land in Malir przez collusion.
The bureau added to the scope of the investigation by stating that the Malir Development Authority (MDA) also unlawfully allotted this land.
According to the NAB Sindh office, all commercial plots owned by Bahria Town were frozen, and no further transfer or allocation could take place.
Moreover, NAB’s fresh measures followed bureau gathering more evidence in which they claimed land encroachments allegedly carried out by Bahria Town beyond the plots allocated initially.
