Sri Lanka defeats Bangladesh after they set a target of 165 runs as both teams kick start their Asia Cup 2023 campaign on Thursday at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy.
Bangladesh were dismissed for 164 in 42.4 overs with Najmul Hossain Shanto scoring 89 runs in 122 balls.
Matheesha Pathirana was able to bag figures of 4-32 in 7.4 overs and he was the pick of the bowlers.
Despite having an injury-riddled squad with several key players missing the event, Sri Lanka was able to perform very well in the first innings.
Sri Lankan team is missing key players like players like all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, pacers Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara.
The squad was led by Dasun Shanaka with experienced personnel like Kusal Mendis, Maheesh Theekshana and Dhanajaya de Silva.
Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka were instrumental for Sri Lanka in their win against Bangladesh as both scored 54 and 62 runs, respectively.
