Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored a quick fifty to help India win against Ireland in their first game at the T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday.
Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. The pitch at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York was bouncy and helped the fast bowlers. Arshdeep Singh took two early wickets in the third over and Irish team faced a hard time throughout the innings. Indian bowlers kept Ireland to 26 for two in the first six overs.
Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah also bowled very well, breaking through Ireland’s middle order. Pandya took three wickets and gave away 27 runs in his four overs. Bumrah and Singh took two wickets each. Ireland were all out for 96 runs in 16 overs, with only four batsmen scoring more than ten runs. Gareth Delany was Ireland’s top scorer with 26 runs from 14 balls, followed by Josh Little with 14 runs.
During the second innings, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opened the innings. Kohli was out early, scoring just one run. Sharma then attacked the Irish bowlers after they dropped a catch. He scored 52 runs from 37 balls before he had to leave the field after being hit on the arm. Rishabh Pant then scored an unbeaten 36 runs to lead India to an eight-wicket win in 12.2 overs.
India will play against Pakistan on June 9 at the same stadium. This match is highly anticipated in the T20 World Cup 2024.
