International Cricket Council (ICC) has awarded Pakistan the hosting rights to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 but the Indian Government is now concerned about their participation in the tournament which will require their team to visit Pakistan.
Former BCCI President and Indian Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said they will announce their decision after a thorough analysis of the security situation. However, it bears mentioning that India has a habit of creating fake security threats like the one which cancelled the tour of New Zealand in Pakistan.
When the time will come, the Indian government and the Home Ministry will take a decision. During the international championships, all the factors are looked upon,” said Indian Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. “Even in past, many countries have refused to play in Pakistan due to security concerns,”
However, the PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja said that there will be no negativity and no pull-outs from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 being played in Pakistan. “Pakistan is fully capable of hosting the tournament.” he said during the online conference. “They [ICC] went through all the pros and cons and after going through the details, came to the conclusion that Pakistan is fit enough to host and administer the Champions Trophy. You shouldn’t worry at all. I don’t think there will be any negativity or any pullouts at all,”
It bears mentioning that India went to great lengths to get New Zealand to cancel their tour of Pakistan. India had created several social media accounts and began issuing threats to New Zealand team before and after their arrival in Pakistan. Pakistan’s neighbor has a reputation of spreading fake news on the internet.
