Today’s Match 2 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 8 2023) marks the opening game for the Karachi Kings vs Peshawar Zalmi at Karachi’s National Bank Cricket Arena. The Peshawar Zalmi was able to defeat Karachi Kings by 2 runs.
Karachi Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first expecting to restrict Peshawar Zalmi, who may not have been able to cross the 200-run mark but still managed to put up a daunting score on the board.
Peshawar Zalmi were off to a rough start as they lost two wickets in the second over, but thanks to Babar Azam and Tom Kohler-Cadmore, the team managed to set a target of 200 runs for Karachi Zalmi.
Mohammad Haris and Saim Ayub, both lost their wickets in the second over after scoring just 10 and 1 run, respectively. However, Babar Azam and Tom Kohler-Cadmore picked up the pace and were able to stitch together 139 runs, which gave their side the advantage by putting enormous pressure on the Karachi Kings.
Bhanu Rajapaksa also scored just 6 runs off 6 balls.
Meanwhile, James Neesham put 16 runs to the total from just 11 balls, while Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan scored just 1 run as both of them came to the pitch towards the end of the innings.
Karachi Kings had a rough start to their batting with an early wicket lost as Sharjeel Khan was sent back to the pavilion on his first ball. Meanwhile, Mathew Wade was able to score 23 runs off 15 balls, while Haider Ali added 12 runs off 10 balls.
Qasim Akram was only able to score 7 runs of 10 balls and Shoaib Malik along with Imad Wasim gave the Karachi Kings a fighting chance as the duo scored 52 and 80 runs, respectively. However, the team lost to Peshawar Zalmi by 2 runs.
