Pakistani contestants, Nooh Dastagir and Shah Hussain, have made the country proud as they ended Pakistan’s medal wait in the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG). According to the details, Nooh Dastagir won the gold medal, while Shah Hussain was able to secure a bronze medal in the CWG.
Nooh Dastagir Butt brought home Pakistan’s first gold medal in the +109kg weightlifting even at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The 23-year-old lifted 173kg in snatch while in clean and jerk, he lifted 232kg, breaking both Commonwealth Games records, to finish with a total of 405kgs.
In the 2018 CWG, Butt won the bronze medal in the 105+kg category, while he also won a Silver medal in the weightlifting championship in CWG last year in December. It is the second time Pakistan has won the gold medal in CWG’s weightlifting event. In 2006, Shujauddin Malik won the gold medal for Pakistan in the 85kg category.
Meanwhile, judoka Shah Hussain also won a bronze for Pakistan in the men’s -90kg category at the Coventry Stadium. The 29-year-old, who is the son of renowned boxer, Hussain Shah, won a bronze medal for the country in Judo after defeating South African Thomas-Laszlo Breytenbach.
It should be mentioned here that Shah has now won a medal at the Commonwealth Games for the second time as he had won the silver medal in the 2014 competitions in Glasgow.
