Preparations are in full swing for the for the HBL PSL 9 as the Pick Order for the Player Draft has been officially finalized by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). In the upcoming HBL Pakistan Super League 2024 (PSL 9) Player Draft, Quetta Gladiators will make the first pick.
Following Gladiators, Karachi Kings and two-time champions Islamabad United will have the second and third picks, respectively. Peshawar Zalmi and last season’s runners-up Multan Sultans will make the fourth and fifth picks, while Lahore Qalandars, winners of the past two PSL editions, will finish the first round with the sixth pick.
The order for the first round in the Platinum category is based on the inverse order of the previous season’s standings. To ensure fairness, each category’s first-round pick will be made by a different franchise. Quetta Gladiators will commence the Platinum picks, Karachi Kings will have the first Diamond pick, Peshawar Zalmi will kick off the Gold picks, Multan Sultans will initiate the Silver category picks, Islamabad United will lead the Emerging category picks, and Lahore Qalandars will have the first Supplementary pick.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already opened the registration window for foreign players, and the flagship event is tentatively scheduled to take place from 8 February to 24 March 2024.
Franchises are now in the process of submitting relegation requests for players before finalizing retentions. After the submission of relegation requests, all teams have the opportunity to match the player’s base category. If the player’s base category is not matched, they may be relegated to a category below their initial base category.
The HBL PSL 9 Draft is tentatively set to occur in mid-December, immediately following the conclusion of the National T20.
Furthermore, the venue for the PSL 9 tournament is still unclear and some reports suggest that it may be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to Pakistan’s General Elections, which are scheduled to take place on 8 February 2024 as well.
