PSL 2021: First round pick order and players categories revealed

The massively anticipated PSL 2021 is just around the corner, and hence the preparations and arrangements of the tournament are taking shape rapidly. Previous month the expected dates and venues were revealed by PCB that created a stir in cricket world. And, in a recent assembly at Karachi today, the platinum category players have been finalized, subsequent to the pick order revelation a day earlier.  

Each passing day takes us a step closer to PSL 6 2021 or Pakistan Super League season 6. And although team green tour New Zealand lately, the activities and measures for the draft matches, due for next month, has been initiated by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Owing to that, on 23^rd November, a pick order was put forward by the organization.

First round pick order

According to the first round pick order of PSL 2021, the two times title holders Islamabad United had the first pick this season. The Multan Sultan’s and runner ups of season 5 Lahore Qalandars held second and third picks respectively, followed with Peshawar Zalmi on 4^th rank. The fifth pick went to Quetta gladiators whereas the reigning champions Karachi Kings were placed on last.

The pick order for round one of the PSL 6 2021 Player Draft was decided after a random draw in the presence of representatives of all six franchises at the PCB headquarters in Lahore. The next 17 rounds were decided through a special statistical tool.

PSL 2021 – Platinum Category Players

All six franchise representatives were requested to vote for every player. However teams were not allowed to vote for their own players but submit review requests at the end of this voting stage. According to the voting, following national players rank in the platinum and diamond category.

Karachi Kings

The player of the tournament for the PSL 2020, the highly admired and illuminating batsman Babar Azam acquires first rank in the platinum category of team blue. Captain Imad Wasim and the invincible pacer Muhammad Amir follows right after.

Peshawar Zalmi

The central trio of Kamran Akmal, Shoaib Malik and veteran pacer Wahab Riaz has been placed in platinum category of Darren Sammy lead team, whereas the young fast bowler Hasnain Ali has been dropped to diamond category in PSL 6 2021.

Quetta Gladiators

Quetta Gladiators captain since day 1, Sarfaraz Ahmed rules the platinum category for the Maya Ali franchise, whereas emerging talent Muhammad Hasnain has been promoted from gold to diamond category, owing to his stellar performance in previous season.

Multan Sultans

The old-stager Shahid Afridi and Sohail Tanvir names in platinum category of the Sultans. In addition, serving captain Shan Masood moves from gold to diamond category with his impressive past performances.

Lahore Qalandars

The run-machines of Qalandars, Muhammad Hafeez and Fakhar Zaman remain in the platinum category of PSL 2021, together with the highest wicket-taker Shaheen Afridi.

Islamabad United

The veteran pacer and the emerging all-rounder Shadab Khan, who left the audience astounded with his hidden batting skills in the previous season, ranks in the platinum category of Islamabad United. However, his teammate Faheem Ashraf has been lowered to diamond category.
