KARACHI: Pakistan Super League sixth edition (PSL 6 2021) – Match 3 Highlights – Islamabad United VS Multan Sultans (IU VS MS) at Karachi National Stadium – United won by 3 wickets with 6 balls remaining.
Islamabad United had won the toss and elected to field first allowing for Peshawar Zalmi to set a target of 151 for the competition after scoring 150/8 in the first innings of the third match of the PSL 6 2021 tournament and the first match for both squads for the season.
It is pertinent to mention that Islamabad United failed terribly last season and finished rock-bottom while Multan Sultans did give an outstanding performance, however, the team also lost its edge during their playoff matches.
Multan Sultans started off strongly with Mohammad Rizwan scoring an exceptional 71 runs off 53 balls. However, the rest of the batting line-up fell short of expectation as Chris Lynn lost his wicket after scoring just 1 run off 5 balls with the pattern continuing for the coming batsmen.
James Vince and Rilee Rossouw did manage to pick up the pace as they were able to score 16 and 25 runs off 17 and 14 balls respectively. Meanwhile, Sohaib Maqsood and Khushdil Shah failed to perform having scored only 2 and 7 runs respectively.
However, Carlos Brathwaite was able to score 22 runs off 14 balls towards the end of the first innings and guide the Multan Sultans squad to a 150/8 finish. It bears mentioning that Shahid Afridi was also gave an outstanding performance with the ball and took 2 crucial wickets for the Sultans.

On the other hand, Islamabad United was able to chase the 151 target set by Multan Sultans albeit with a few hiccups. The squad had an acceptable start with Phil Salt and Alex Hales scoring 13 and 29 runs off 12 and 20 balls respectively but the team did suffer a setback as Shadab Khan, Hussain Talat, Asif Ali and Iftikhar Ahmed fell short of expectations and failed to perform.
However, Lewis Gregory managed to keep Islamabad United in the match by scoring 49 runs of 31 balls and guiding the squad to victory in their first match of the PSL 6 2021 tournament. Faheem Ashraf also contributed 22 runs off 12 balls while Zafar Gohar came to the pitch towards the end of the innings and scored only 3 runs.
