Saudi Arabia has defeated Argentina (2-1) in their opening Group C encounter at the FIFA World Cup 2022 on Tuesday.
This was the first defeat for the Copa America champions after 36 games after goals by Saleh Alshehri and Salem Aldawsari in a five-minute span in the second half of the game that put Saudi Arabia in the lead.
Messi scored the first goal of his final World Cup and took Argentina in lead early in the first half after a foul from Al Bulayahi as he took down Parades in the box.
However, the pressure did not last long for the Arab team and men in green were able to give their fans an emotional victory.
Saudi Arabia was able to score a brilliant left-footed shot by Alshehri that cut across goalkeeper Martinez and landed in the bottom right corner.
Meanwhile, Aldawsari scored the winning goal in the 53rd minute, giving the Arab team their biggest win.
