South Africa defeated New Zealand by 190 runs in the 32nd match of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune on Wednesday.
New Zealand failed to keep up with South Africa in all departments as most their their batters failed to even score double digits.
Glenn Phillips scored the highest with 60 runs, while Will Young managed the second highest score of 33 runs and Daryl Mitchell was the third and only other player to score in the double digits with 24 runs.
New Zealand kept on losing wickets and the team was all out for just 167 runs against a target of 358 runs.
Batting first, South Africa lost their opener Temba Bavuma for only 24 runs. However, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van de Dussen formed a 200-run partnership with both scoring 114 and 133 runs, respectively.
After the two batters left, David Miller made sure to add another 53 runs off 30 balls, taking the Proteas to a competitive total of 357 runs.
New Zealand will play Pakistan in a crucial match on November 4, while South Africa will play India on November 5 in Kolkata.
