Apple has announced a 14-inch MacBook Pro, which now as a centered notch in the display. The new MacBook Pro is powered by Apple’s new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips along with a wider selection of ports apart from the standard Thunderbolt ones, including an HDMI port, MicroSD card reader, and a MagSafe 3 connector for charging. However, you still have the option to charge it with the Thunderbolt ports using a USB-C power brick.
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 and it features some impressive specifications, including a 14.2″ ProMotion (Liquid Retina Pro XDR) MiniLED display running at 120Hz and a resolution of 3024 by 1964 at 100 nits sustained brightness and 1600 nits peak brightness. The display has smaller bezels than the previous generation but one of the downsides is notch that houses a 1080p webcam. However, the notch still lacks the integration of Apple’s FaceID system.
Apple has equipped the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with it’s new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, which feature 10 CPU cores. The M1 Pro has options for a 14-core or 16-core GPU, while the M1 Max comes with a 24-core and 32-core GPU options. Furthermore, the MacBook Pro comes with 16GB or RAM standard but you can upgrade to 32GB with the M1 Pro chip or 64GB with the M1 Max chip.
Apple has brought back several ports to the new 14-inch MacBook Pro, including an HDMI port, MicroSD card reader, and a MagSafe 3 connector for charging. The MacBook Pro comes with an additional Thunderbolt port (upgraded to Thunderbolt 4) compared to its 13-inch counterpart.
It bears mentioning that it is the first major redesign to Apple’s MacBook Pro lineup since 2016 and marks the return of the 14-inch screen since the 2005 iBook G4. The new 14-inch MacBook Pro is aimed at users who are looking for more horsepower while the 13-inch Pro or the MacBook Air is still a better option for anyone looking for more portability.
