Apple iPhone 15 series will reportedly be the first smartphone lineup by the company with a USB-C charging port. According to an Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, the Cupertino-based tech giant may finally ditch the lighting port for the USB Type-C port in 2023 with the iPhone 15 series.
“My latest survey indicates that 2H23 new iPhone will abandon Lighting port and switch to USB-C port.” the analyst wrote in a Twitter post. “USB-C could improve iPhone’s transfer and charging speed in hardware designs, but the final spec details still depend on iOS support.” Kuo added.

My latest survey indicates that 2H23 new iPhone will abandon Lightning port and switch to USB-C port. USB-C could improve iPhone's transfer and charging speed in hardware designs, but the final spec details still depend on iOS support.
Rumors regarding Apple adopting a USB-C port for iPhones have been in circulation for the past few years now. The tech giant has already made the switch to USB-C for various iPad models, but the lighting port is still plaguing the iPhone lineup by the company.
If the tweets from Kuo are true, the iPhone 15 series will mark the end of the lighting port as Apple’s primary charging cable after almost 13 years. Furthermore, Kuo believes that the move will also help suppliers of the Apple ecosystem become the market’s focus in the next couple of years.
“It’s expected to see existing USB-C-related suppliers of Apple’s ecosystem (e.g., IC controller, connector) become the market’s focus in the next 1-2 years, thanks to vast orders from iPhones and accessories’ adoption of USB-C ports.” the analyst tweeted.

While Apple prepares to launch the iPhone 14 series later this year, there have been several leaks about its successor as well. According to these leaks, the Apple iPhone 15 series may feature an under-display Face ID sensor that will help the company get rid of the hideous notch.
Furthermore, the 2023 models of the iPhone are rumored to get a periscope camera, under-display Touch ID and several other new features.
