Apple is reportedly considering upgrading to the iPhone SE 4 with OLED displays by 2025, as per a report by The Elec. Currently, the iPhone SE is the only model in Apple’s lineup still utilizing LCD technology, and the shift to OLED would align it with the company’s premium offerings, offering brighter colors and deeper blacks.
The main focus for Apple remains on maintaining affordability for the iPhone SE 4. Suppliers like Samsung and BOE are competing to provide the OLED screens, with quotes ranging from $30 to $40 per unit. Samsung, rumored to offer the lowest price at $30, may secure the majority of orders.
Tienma, another manufacturer, has offered the most expensive price at $40. Despite potential higher manufacturing costs for OLED panels, Apple aims to balance affordability through supplier competition.
These quoted prices are significantly lower than the panels used in the iPhone 15, allowing Apple to maintain a decent margin for each iPhone SE 4 sold. While a production partner has not been finalized, Apple seeks even lower prices in the mid-20s range. The exact launch date remains uncertain, but rumors suggest a 2025 timeframe for the iPhone SE 4.
