Apple’s Vision Pro is now officially on the market, boasting nearly 600 apps designed specifically for the headset. Despite this extensive collection, it falls short compared to the vast app stores of the iPhone and iPad. To support developers, Apple has introduced the “Developer Strap” priced at $300, functioning as a USB-C dongle facilitating a direct connection between the Vision Pro headset and a Mac.
This accessory aims to accelerate the development of graphics-intensive apps and games, allowing developers to compile and debug directly on the device, potentially eliminating the need for a wireless connection. The strap, exclusively available through the Apple Developer website, comes with a built-in speaker, replacing the right audio strap that comes with Vision Pro.
Crucially, Apple positions the Developer Strap strictly for developers, and it’s not available through the regular Apple Store. Orders can only be placed via the Apple Developer site and are currently limited to US-based developer account holders. Additionally, Apple Stores in the US are offering 25-minute Vision Pro demos, showcasing the device’s capabilities, available content, and apps. The headset’s potential launch in additional countries later this year remains a possibility.
