The government has proposed a massive increase in the new levy for import of mobile phones through the Federal Budget 2022-23 announced by Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Friday.
According to the Finance Bill, it was recommended to impose new and increased levy on the import of mobile phones of different price categories. It was suggested to impose a levy of Rs. 100 on mobile phones costing up to $30, Rs. 200 on mobile phones costing between $30 and $100, Rs. 600 on mobile phones costing between $101 and $200.
Likewise, it was also recommended to impose a heavier levy of Rs. 1,800 on mobile phones costing between $201 to $350, Rs. 4,000 on mobile phones costing between $351 to $500, Rs. 8,000 on mobile handsets costing between $501 to $700, and finally, a levy of Rs. 16,000 was proposed on mobile phones costing above $701.
According to the details, the government plans to collect an estimated revenue of Rs. 10 billion from the levy collected on the import of mobile phones.
