OpenAI’s ChatGPT is down for users around the world with everyone complaining that it won’t generate any responses or load previous chat history. UPDATE: ChatGPT has been restored after hours long outage.
ChatGPT only shows the following message, “We’re experiencing exceptionally high demand. Please hang tight as we work on scaling our systems.”
While the option to enter your prompt is available, it won’t generate a response when you click enter and ends up showing the following message, “Something went wrong. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.”
As per Downdetector, there was spike in reports around 4:40 pm (GMT-5) and it has been almost one hour since OpenAI’s ChatGPT is down for all users regardless of their subscription to ChatGPT Plus or ChatGPT Enterprise.
Meanwhile, OpenAI’s Status page indicates that they’ve found the problem and a team is currently working on a fix. “The issue has been identified and a fix is being implemented.” the status page reads while informing of “elevated errors on API and ChatGPT.”
OpenAI has provide updates regarding the ChatGPT outage on its status page. “We’re continuing to work on a fix. The underlying issue is due to an issue with our database replicas. ChatGPT and non-completion API endpoints are partially impacted, while completion API endpoints including chat completions are only minimally impacted.”
Another update stated, “We are continuing to work on a fix; we have several improvements in-flight to help restore full access, and will keep you updated here.”
