Elon Musk’s recently announced startup xAI has just released the Grok – a competitor and direct rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard.
Musk has referred to his new AI chatbot as “the best there is” in “some elements” and it holds true as Grok is performing better than ChatGPT is several academic tests including mathematics and coding.
Furthermore, unlike ChatGPT that is restricted to information up till a certain point, xAI’s Grok can access real-time information from X (formerly Twitter), which means it is up to date on most of the latest world events and more.
The chatbot is based on a new engine called Grok-1
According to xAI, “Grok is an AI modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask!”, which already seems a step ahead of GPT3.5.
“Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don’t use it if you hate humor!”, which is different to ChatGPT and Bard, both of which maintain a professional tone.
Furthermore, xAI mentioned that Grok is still a very early beta product and the best they could do with 2 months of training so we should expect rapid improvement each passing week.
According to xAI, “Grok-1″Grok-1 displayed strong results, surpassing all other models in its compute class, including ChatGPT-3.5 and Inflection-1. It is only surpassed by models that were trained with a significantly larger amount of training data and compute resources like GPT-4.”
xAI also shared some benchmarks to confirm the statement.
At the moment, Grok is available to a limited number of users in the United States and it is also being offered as part of the X Premium Plus subscription for $16 a month.
