Epic Games, Xbox Live Goes Down After Fortnite’s Big Bang Event

The recent Fortnite Big Bang event, marking the imminent end of Chapter 4, has taken down both, the Epic Games Store and Xbox Live with users unable to login to their accounts. Both platforms seem to have experienced disruptions due to the overwhelming influx of players eager to witness the event unfold. Remarkably, Fortnite itself remains unscathed, with players that were already logged in still able to seamlessly join matches without any issues.

The live event showcased an Eminem concert as promised, and attendees received confirmation of upcoming additions to Fortnite, including a tantalizing hint at the long-awaited Lego collaboration. Following a brief downtime post-event, players were temporarily placed on standby before rejoining matches. Nevertheless, users on Xbox Live and the Epic Games Store encountered extended delays.

Xbox Support, via Twitter, acknowledged the potential impact on Xbox Live, alerting users to issues affecting activities such as cloud gaming sessions and signing into Xbox’s online services. The Xbox Support account reassured users, stating, “We are aware that users are encountering issues signing in to Xbox Live, accessing party chat, and launching cloud gaming sessions. While our teams investigate, follow along here and on our status page.”

Although Fortnite was not explicitly mentioned in the tweet, users in the replies quickly drew connections between the reported issues and the recently concluded Fortnite event.

The Epic Games Store’s service status page echoed a similar update, citing a “Major Outage” affecting multiple systems. Users swiftly reported account access problems, noting difficulties in accessing the store or launcher. Upon personal attempts, the login process spun indefinitely before an error message surfaced, confirming ongoing issues with the Epic Games Store.
