Google Messages, a popular app for SMS and RCS messaging, might soon introduce a sought-after feature: message editing. This addition aims to enhance user flexibility and alleviate the annoyance of having to delete and resend messages due to errors. Discovered in the beta version by Twitter user AssembleDebug, the feature suggests Google’s active development efforts.
According to reports, users could have a 30-minute window to edit sent messages, with a transparent edit history. The process is expected to be straightforward, involving long-pressing a message to access the editing field. However, successful editing may require recipients to have the feature enabled, initially possibly limited to RCS messages.
During testing, recipients observed edited messages as separate messages in RCS chats, indicating that the feature might not be universally enabled. While there’s no official release date and initial availability may be restricted to RCS messages, the potential addition underscores Google’s commitment to enhancing Google Messages’ functionality and user experience.
