Google is reportedly working on wearable devices that will have a feature called a ‘skin interface’ and it will allow users to control these devices using gestures on the skin. According to the report by LetsGoDigital, Google is working on a smartwatch that will likely be called the Pixel Watch and the upcoming Pixel Buds, which will both have the skin interface feature that will allow users to control these wearables through skin gestures.
The report states that Google filed a patent back in 2020 with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for something called the “Skin Interface for Wearables: Sensor Fusion to Improve Signal Quality.” However, the details of the patent are still unclear regarding whether it is meant for the upcoming Pixel Watch or Pixel Buds.
The technology will allow users to control their devices (Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds) through gestures on their own skin like tapping the area around the wearables. LetsGoDigital shared a picture showing how the new skin gestures would work with the Pixel Watch and Pixel Buds.
According to the diagram, the Pixel Watch may be controlled by tapping the area of the wrist around the smartphone and allow the built-in sensors to pick up the movement and carry out the appropriate action on the device. Meanwhile, the Pixel Buds would be controlled by tapping the area around the ear to change volume or tracks.
However, Google has not yet announced anything officially regarding the skin gestures interface or when the new technology may be coming to its wearables. Although, the rumors say that both devices are expected to be introduced sometime later this year.
