The Government’s ban on import of headphones and speakers in the country will cause an increase in the price of these products in Pakistan next starting next week. According to sources, the prices of headphones and speakers will be raised by dealers starting Monday and several shopkeepers have already halted sales of the product to sell at higher profit margins.
It is pertinent to mention that headphones and speakers were among the list of 38 luxury products banned for import in Pakistan in a bid to control the depreciation of the Pakistani Rupee against the US Dollar (USD to PKR) and recover the current account deficit.
There is no local production of reliable headphones and speakers in Pakistan as most entry-level products are also imported from China. The federal government has banned a product which has no local alternatives, while terming it as a luxury item.
It bears mentioning that not everyone uses Apple AirPods for their day to day lives and most people need this product for their work and with the ban on import of these products, the prices will skyrocket starting next week. According to our sources, the price hike of headphones and speakers in Pakistan won’t just affect imported products but locally manufactured and poor quality ones as well.
Many shopkeepers have halted sale of these products until Monday, when new rates will likely be announced for headphones and speakers.
