Instagram co-founders, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, are back with a brand new app called ‘Artifact’, which is going to compete with Twitter and TikTok.
The app itself is now yet publicly available but waitlist has been set up for interested users. According to a report by The Verge, the newly launched Artifact is like a TikTok for text and the publication referred to it as “Google Reader reborn.”
The app will offer personalized news feed like Google Reader and it will use artificial intelligence for the same, which is where the name comes into play. Systrom says that ‘Artifact’ name was chosen to represent the app’s three pillars, including articles, facts, and artificial intelligence.
Artifact will display a feed of popular articles chosen from curated list of publishers as well as small-scale blogs. Furthermore, the readers will be able to tap on the news stories they want to read and then the app will start showing similar posts and stories in the future, which is similar to the way TikTok or Twitter offers you a “For You” section on their platform.
As for Artifact’s beta testers, they will only be able to view the main ranked feed and two more features are further being tested on the app. One of those features include ability to see articles posted by other users and the second feature is the ability to send direct messages to inbox, allowing users to discuss posts with friends.
The app is available on both, Android and iOS.
