LG Display has unveiled a new 27-inch OLED gaming monitor that comes with an amazing refresh rate of 480Hz and a sharp 1440p resolution. This goes one step beyond LG’s old “Dual-Hz” screen, which needed changing to 1080p mode for the same refresh rate. Unlike its predecessor, the new offering maintains the full refresh rate at its native 1440p resolution, directly competing with Samsung’s recent OLED panel boasting a 360Hz refresh rate at 1440p.
While the 480Hz refresh rate may seem excessive for most gamers, as studies suggest the human eye’s maximum observable rate is between 50-90Hz, LG emphasizes the panel’s 0.03ms response time, claimed to be the fastest on the market. The technology, named “META Technology,” not only promises improvements in brightness and viewing angles but also claims to emit the “lowest level of blue light in the industry,” reducing eye fatigue during prolonged gaming sessions.
However, the advanced features come at a cost, making OLED screens, already expensive, even pricier. LG plans to roll out monitor models featuring this panel in the first half of 2024, with a showcase of its entire lineup of OLED gaming displays at CES 2024, ranging from 27 inches to a substantial 45 inches.
