MediaTek is a popular chipmaker especially when it comes to the low to mid ranged smartphones and its popular with many Chinese phone makers such as Oppo, Realme and even Vivo. Now MediaTek launches first 5G chipset with support for cameras up to 80 megapixels.
The new SoC is called the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 5G and it is said to power devices that will start coming out during Q1 of 2020. The chipset has multi-mode support for all cellular standards from 2G to 5G and will also support Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 standards. The new MediaTek 5G chipset, Dimensity 1000 is said to support 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC CA) and claims to have the world’s fastest throughput in an SoC with 4.7Gbps downlink and 2.5Gbps uplink speeds over sub-6GHz networks with support for stand alone and non-stand alone (SA/NSA) sub 6GHz networks.
Other specs for the MediaTek Dimensity 1000 SoC include four ARM Cortex-A77 cores running up to 2.6GHz and four power-efficient slower cores that run up to 2.0GHz.
The company claims:
The chipset is also the world’s first to pack ARM Mali-G77 GPU to enable seamless streaming and gaming at 5G speeds,
The new MediaTek 5G SoC is said to have dual sim 5G support and the Dimensity 1000 comes with a new MediaTek AI Processing Unit, the APU 3.0.
Its said to have a five core image signal processor (ISP) and comes with MediaTek’s Imagiq+ technology. The MediaTek 5G chipset Dimensity 1000 supports multi camera options with the main camera support up to 80 megapixel at 24 frames per second.
The APU will support advanced AI enhancements when it comes to autofocus, auto exposure, auto white balance, noise reduction, high dynamic range (HDR) and facial detection. It also supports the world’s first multi-frame video HDR capability. The SoC also supports displays up to Full HD+ running at 120Hz and 90Hz in case of displays with a resolution higher then 2K resolution.
