Meta, the parent company behind Facebook and Instagram, has launched a new ad-free subscription service to remove ads on the platform.
According to the details, Facebook and Instagram’s new ad-free subscription will become available from November 2023 for users in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland.
The service will cost €9.99 per month on the web and €12.99 per month on iOS and Android devices to account for Google and Apple’s share of transactions conducted on the Google Play Store and App Store.
The ad-free subscription service will allow Facebook and Instagram users in the mentioned region to use the platform without any ads. Furthermore, the subscription will apply to all linked Facebook and Instagram accounts in a user’s Accounts Center.
However, Meta will charge an additional fee of €6 on the web or €8 on iOS and Android per linked account from 1st March 2024.
The reasons behind the introduction of the ad-free subscription is the extremely strict European regulations regarding collection of data before showing users personalized ads.
These strict rules limit Meta’s ability to tailor ads by tracking users’ online activity and offering an ad-free subscription for Facebook and Instagram will allow the company to work around the EU regulations.
