After three days, the Government has restored mobile internet services across Pakistan, which were suspended in response to protests and riots that broke out due to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan’s “illegal” arrest.
According to the details, the telecom industry has received instructions for the restoration of mobile internet services across the country, while social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, will also be restored soon.
It is pertinent to mention that mobile internet or data services were suspended across Pakistan on 9th May 2023 after Former Prime Minister and PTI chief, Imran Khan, was arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) by Rangers personnel.
The PTI Chief was arrested in the Al-Qadir Trust case, which alleges that Imran Khan, along with his wife and other PTI leaders, had made a settlement between the PTI government and a property tycoon, which caused a loss of nearly £190 billion to the national exchequer.
Meanwhile, the suspension of mobile internet services has caused loss of billions of rupees of the economy, while daily laborers like delivery riders and drivers working for online cab services like Careem were on the brunt end of the suspension.
However, it is being reported that mobile internet services will be restored and made operational soon and intimation of relevant orders in already underway. Although, it might take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours for services to become fully operational.
