The popular video streaming service Netflix is launching a free mobile plan for Android users that will allow them to watch a limited selection of its catalog, including full seasons of select shows. However, this new plan will only be available in Kenya for now but hopefully Netflix will expand it to other regions soon.
Netflix announced that starting this week, the new ad-free Netflix mobile plan for Android users will give them the option to signup without having to enter any payment information. However, they will need to verify that they’re 18 years of age or older and they will also need to submit an email address to create a login and start using Netflix for free.
Netflix revealed that it is offering this free plan because the company hopes that users who enjoy the service will eventually upgrade to one of its paid subscriptions and get access to its complete catalog and support for streaming on TVs and laptops as well.
However, there are some restrictions as the free plan being offered by Netflix will only be available to Android users. Furthermore, these users will not be able to download an episode for offline viewing or cast shows or movies to a TV. Moreover, the free tier will only include a quarter of the complete Netflix library.
The free tier being offered by Netflix is only going to be available to users in Kenya but Netflix said that it might be expanded to other regions in the future.
