Pakistan will likely face slow internet due to multiple submarine cables being damaged in the Red Sea region affected traffic between Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Telecommunications networks in the Red Sea region are facing problems because important submarine cables have been broken. This means that companies that provide services like internet are having difficulty sending information between Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
A company called HGC Global Communications, based in Hong Kong, said that the cables of four major telecom networks were damaged, affecting about a quarter of the usual traffic between these regions. They’re working to fix the problem and help affected businesses but didn’t say what caused the damage.
One of the companies that owns a damaged cable, Seacom from South Africa, said it might take about a month to start fixing it because they need permits to work in that area. The Yemeni government had warned before that Houthi rebels might try to damage these cables. Some news sources said these rebels were responsible, but the rebel leader denied it.
Instead, the Houthis accused British and US military units of causing the damage. The submarine cable cuts are causing a lot of disruption to communication networks in the area, affecting businesses and people who rely on the internet for various activities.
