A joint operation between the PTA Zonal Offices in Lahore and Sukkur, along with FIA Cyber Crime Circles yielded successful raids on franchises of two mobile phone companies located in Sharaqpur Sharif and Kandhkot.
These operations were aimed to curb the illegal provision of SIM cards, a practice usually associated with criminal activities such as fraud, theft of identities and other shady businesses.
During the raids, 13 active SIM cards were seized together with the confiscation of 8 Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices that are often used to illegally switch on SIMs. The owner of the Sharaqpur Sharif franchise has been arrested, and two persons connected with the Kandhkot franchise have been cited in the FIR. These cases are under active investigation by the FIA.
PTA’s policy to end the ever-increasing problem of illegal SIMs issuance is relentless and clearly points out at its willingness to rid this menace from the telecommunications sector.
