The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned that use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN) without registration is a violation of PTA regulations.
In a public notice, PTA has asked users to register their VPN services using a simplified process through the online application available on https://ipregistration.pta.gov.pk/.
Furthermore, PTA has added that users need to register their VPNs by 31st October 2022 in order to avoid any disruption to service.
According to the details, PTA says that organizations in the public and private sector, foreign missions, freelancers, and whoever desires to use VPN for their legitimate purpose, need to register their VPNs with the regulator.

PTA added that applications for VPN registration will only be accepted through above mentioned online link.
It is pertinent to mention that PTA has issued the same notice several times in the past and asked users to register their VPNs but the regulator never implemented an outright ban and blocked VPN services in the country.
However, this might be the last notice issued by PTA and the regulator may end up blocking VPNs in the country if you consider the recent banning spree for several online websites and services.
