Qualcomm recently unveiled its latest Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoCs at a press event. This new chip, essentially a slightly trimmed-down version of the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, retains many of its impressive features.
Hardware Accelerated Ray Tracing:
Just like its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, enhancing realism in lighting, shadows, and reflections in games and other applications.
Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0:
This technology, introduced in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, is also present in the new chip. It has the potential to double the frame rate of games from 60fps to 120fps by generating additional frames.
CPU Configuration:
The CPU configuration includes a Cortex-X4 prime core, four Cortex A720 cores, and three Cortex-A520 cores, offering clock speeds of 3.0GHz, 2.8GHz, and 2.0GHz, respectively. It supports up to 24GB LPDDR5x RAM clocked at 4,200MHz.
Image and Video Processing:
The processor boasts an 18-bit triple cognitive ISP feature for handling image and video processing tasks, enabling features like always-on camera, photo enhancement, and 4K HDR video recording at 60FPS.
Connectivity:
For connectivity, it features the FastConnect 7800 Mobile Connectivity System, Wi-Fi 7 with HBS, and a Snapdragon X70 5G-Modem RF System, supporting Release 17 5G for better performance and wider range.
On-Device Generative AI:
The chip emphasizes on-device generative AI, offering AI image generation and support for up to 10 billion parameters, catering to various AI-driven tasks.
Qualcomm announced that global OEMs and brands such as HONOR, iQOO, realme, Redmi, and Xiaomi will adopt the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 platform, with the first device launch expected in March. This chip promises to bring enhanced performance and capabilities to upcoming smartphones from these brands.
