Xiaomi has launched the Redmi K50 Ultra – the smartphone Redmi smartphones to come equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and several other features for a reasonable price.
Display and Design
The Xiaomi K50 Ultra is like a mix of K50 Pro and the K50 Gaming Edition, but carries some improvements when it comes to the specifications.
The smartphone boasts a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a rare 12-bit panel that can render 68.7 billion colors compared to the 10-bit panel on the K50 Gaming, and the 8-bit panel on the K50 Pro.
Furthermore, the display has perfect color calibration as well as supports features like HDR10 and Dolby Vision with a resolution between FHD+ and QHD+ (1220×2712).
Moreover, the display has a 120Hz refresh rate and a 480Hz touch sampling rate that makes operation buttery smooth.
Internals and Storage
As discussed above, the Redmi K50 Ultra comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM with several UFS 3.1 storage options, including 128GB/256GB/512GB.
However, there is no option for expansion as the smartphone lacks a memory card slot, but there should be no need for it with up to 512GB of user storage being provided in the higher-end model.
Camera
The camera on the Redmi K50 Ultra is similar to its Pro variant with a 108MP main sensor with OIS, specifically the 1/1.67” HM6 sensor with 0.64µm native pixels, which can be combined (9-to-1) into 1.92µm effective pixels.
This camera has a combination lens with 1 glass and 5 plastic elements that lets through more light and a bright f/1.6 aperture to boot.
The secondary camera includes a basic 87MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP macro lens, while the front selfie camera is equipped with a 20MP sensor.
Battery and Charging
The K50 Ultra is powered by a 5000mAH battery that offers 120W fast charging thanks to the in-house Surge P1 chip and the company claims that the battery is good to last the user over a day with the new chipset and efficient display.
Price
The Redmi K50 Ultra comes in Black, Silver, and Blue colors with price starting at CNY 3,000 ($445/€430/₹35,500), however, the rates of different variants are mentioned in the table below.
