ISLAMABAD: Local mobile stores across Pakistan have significantly raised smartphones prices following the government’s new 25% tax on these devices.
Consumers are feeling the pinch as they face substantially higher prices. The government had previously announced this tax hike, but its implementation has just begun, leading to a sudden surge in smartphone costs.
For example, the Samsung Galaxy A55, previously available on Daraz for Rs119,000, now costs Rs140,000. This sharp increase has caught many consumers off guard, especially those who planned to buy smartphones on Thursday, only to see prices skyrocket within 24 hours.
Mobile shops in major cities like Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Gujranwala have already adjusted their prices according to the new tax. A mobile store owner in Islamabad mentioned that most shop owners are now selling smartphones at the increased prices. However, a few stores with old stock might still offer lower prices, though these are rare.
This price hike is significant news for tech enthusiasts and frequent smartphone upgraders, who will be notably affected by the 25% increase in mobile phone prices.
