Despite increased demand and all-time high electricity bills, the prices of solar panels in Pakistan continue to fall in the market. This has allowed many consumers to shift towards solar systems as a cheaper alternative. However, the prices of inverters and batteries still remain unchanged, but that is not stopping consumers from switching because of skyrocketing power bills.
According to reports, the rates for solar panels have dropped by 30% in the last six months. Currently, the price of solar panels in Pakistan has reached as low as Rs. 37/watt, which is a massive decline compared to Rs. 80/watt rates back in 2022.
Last month, there were reports that the government was planning on implementing a fixed tax on solar panel users across the country. The reports stated that the Power Division had recommended imposing a fixed tax of Rs. 2,000 per kilowatt on all solar panel users.
However, the Power Division soon dismissed these rumors, stating that no such proposal had been made to introduce such a tax. However, it was confirmed that the government was planning on revising the net metering rates to protect low-income users from increased electricity-tariff.
